Working with Patrons and Preparing a Lesson (April 22, 2026)

This topic is one of our beginner lessons: Working With Patrons and Preparing a Lesson.  We will stress the one-on-one teaching model and offer suggestions on how to best prepare to give a Discovery Lesson that will benefit your patron and meet their needs.  Two model lessons will be demonstrated - one a get to know your ancestor lesson and the other a research discovery experience.  This is a great lesson for anyone who is newly called or hasn't had much experience in actually teaching others about family history. Priesthood leaders can also benefit from seeing this presentation as it can guide them in helping consultants learn their craft.

Temple Ordinance Opportunities appears to be part of a wide-spread initiative the Church is conducting in providing multiple ways to interest and encourage members to become engaged in taking their own family members to the temple. This tool is still in the exploratory phase but shows a lot of promise in helping patrons find relatives to submit by going to their fan chart and choosing a line to explore for people with green temples or the yellow temples (meaning more information is needed.)  Come join us and learn where to find this tool and how to best use it. The Newly Clarified Temple Submission Policy (January 8, 2025)

 FamilySearch made some significant changes to the temple submission program and it is wise that we spend some time right at the start of the year reviewing this.  Some of you have probably already studied this but there will be others that are not even aware of these changes. Since these changes can impact every user that submits names to the temple is it important that we know these policies for our own use and for the benefit of all we work with.
